A nerve plexus situated ventral to the promontory of the sacrum, arising as a continuation of the abdominal aortic nerve plexus, receiving branches of the 3rd and 4th lumbar ganglia and sacral splanchnic nerves. It forms a hypogastric nerve on each side of the rectum and vagina, innervating the pelvic viscera. and extends to its division into the inferior hypogastric plexusCLICK TO GO TO THIS STRUCTURE/CONCEPT Cluster of nerves that arises a a continuation of the superior hypogastric nerves through the hypogastric nerve and lie on both sides of the rectum and vagina.
